- As you may remember, when I was the first Chief of Chiropractic in a Hospital in New York State, I initiated CHIROPRACTIC Manipulation Under Anesthesia (more
properly termed Manipulation Under Sedation).
MUA (Manipulation Under Sedation) has been practiced for 75+ years.
Decades ago Osteopathic Physicians (similar to Medical Doctors, but practicing
manipulative techniques) performed Spinal MUA routinely for spine pain and
conditions. Over the years Osteopathy began to look more and more like
Allopathic Medical Doctors, lost their manipulative roots, and Spinal MUA
decreased.
In the last twenty years or so, with the increased acceptance of Chiropractic,
Spinal MUA has returned as a treatment for Spinal Pain, Spinal Conditions.

- “It’s the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me!” exclaims Montel Williams.
NERVE PRESSURE CAUSING MS SYMPTOMS
Montel has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He explains how after suffering from pain, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, he experienced almost instantaneous relief from pain with chiropractic adjustments. “It’s the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me!” exclaims Montel Williams after less than two weeks of chiropractic care.
Montel explains that he can stand up straight without pain for the first time in over 5 years. The extreme neuralgic pain (nerve pain) in his lower extremities, pain in his feet and problems with his balance that have plagued him for the past 5-6 years have begun to resolve after being adjusted using Atlas Orthogonal upper cervical techniques developed by Dr. Roy Sweat.
Friends that know him have noticed a marked change. He is walking differently, his pain is less, and he has regained strength in his leg.
Montel’s chiropractor, Dr. Patrick Kerr, explains that this is the direct result of removing pressure on the brain stem resulting from misalignment of the atlas, the top bone of the spine. Dr. Kerr explains how misalignment of the spine causes mechanical compression of the nerve roots that exit the spine, causing all kinds of dysfunction. Properly aligning the spine reestablishes proper communication between the brain and the rest of the body.
Montel explains that misalignment of the spine is frequently a result of trauma in one form or another. When the atlas vertebra is subjected to stresses and strains, it may be pushed out of proper alignment. Trauma may include car accidents (no matter how minor and regardless of immediate symptoms), slips and falls, blows to the head, or sports related injuries.
Repetitive micro traumas, such as bad sleeping habits, poor posture, incorrect lifting and carrying can also cause misalignment. In children, often the birth process itself introduces spinal misalignments.
The resulting misalignment can cause nerve pressure and inflammation causing a disruption of the normal functioning of the nervous system and interfering with the bodies’ ability to function properly, self regulate, adapt and heal.
